Don't get caught off guard!
Make sure you are relying on dependable sources for continued weather updates.
Emergency Supplies
Charge everything up! Power outages are common during ice storms. Make sure your phones, laptops, and power banks are fully charged. A full tank of gas in your car is also a good idea, as gas stations may not be able to pump fuel during an outage.
Stock up on essentials!! Medications, Pet food, and any baby supplies you might need.
Stay Warm & Safe! Gather extra blankets, sleeping bags, and warm clothing. NEVER use generators, charcoal grills, or propane heaters indoors- They produce carbon monoxide, which can be deadly.
AVOID USING ANY FLAME ITEMS SUCH AS CANDLES, AS THIS COULD RESULT IN A FIRE
Make sure you have on hand battery-operated lanterns, flashlights and extra batteries.
Exterior Hazards:
Limit travel during freezing rain and snow unless absolutely necessary, as roads and walkways may become icy and dangerous. Keep walkways and steps clear of clutter to prevent slips and falls. For your safety, please use caution when walking on property grounds and use handrails.
Allow faucets to drip slightly to help prevent frozen pipes. Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate. Keep your thermostat at a consistent temperature, even if you are away from your unit. DO NOT TURN your heat OFF/ON. The thermostat needs to remain in the ON position.
If roads are impassable - Housing Authority staff will NOT be able to respond to any emergency work orders. Please call the emergency contact number 770-328-6507 and you will be advised of action to be taken. If it is a true emergency, call 911.
